Children dreaming to make a mark in life have found a mentor in the 'I Have a Dream' foundation. The foundation was formed to empower less fortunate children coming from low income areas of the country, with the financial resources and guidance that is required to finish schooling and enter college. The program and eventually, the foundation were set up by Eugene Lang to curb the high drop out rates of the students. The program was hugely successful in all parts of the country, wherever it was adopted.

In Dallas, the program saw several hundred students from the 1988 class graduate from high school in 1994. In May 1999, the Foundation had its first class of fourth graders adopted in 1990, to graduate from high school with a graduation rate of 64%. Today the students of the foundation study in some of the best colleges of the world which include Southern Methodist University, Dallas Baptist University, The University of Dallas, University of North Texas, Texas Woman's University, Grambling State University, University of Houston, Prairie View A&M University among others.

The foundation continues to educate and enrich lives by adopting students. This is evident in the ever increasing graduation rates of these children. Today, the board members of IHAD-Dallas now include names like including David Disiere of the Deep South Surplus of Texas, Helen M. Dorsey, Dr. Pepper/Seven Up Inc. James W. Loose Galloway-James Inc. and others
