The How International Are You? Test
I’ve written this online test a while ago. If you are a true global nomad you should score in the category “Global Gypsy” or above (I’ve used the term gypsy instead of nomad because, to me, a nomad is someone who migrates seasonally and a gypsy someone who migrates freely). Please have a go and tell me what you think of it:

Expat: 52% worldliness, 34% lifestyle, 82% attitude, 73% knowledge.
About right since most of my other-culture experience was gained in subcultures within U.S. and Canada, mostly Native-American and Hawaiian. Once I recover from my work-accident injuries (I was working so I could earn enough money to travel Europe and the U.K. for three months! - and then I planned on coming back and earning enough money to do Africa and Middle East next/or staying in Europe and working in one country until I could afford to go to the next, working my way through my travels - seasonal harvest help sounded especially attractive) I plan to do much more global travel/living.

I’m an EXPAT
55% Worldliness,48% Lifestyle (absolutely right at my advanced age XD),61% Attitude, 82% Knowledge. I AM surprised at the poor attitude showing, but I think I know what influenced that…
The question I liked best was the one about what it would take to pack “your most precious possessions.” At this stage of my life, I think I could actually pack them all quite nicely just in my heart…except my 3 cats, who can be seen by following the link.

I had a couple of problems answering the questions…
I’ve never visited the place where I was born, so none of those answers really worked.
I said that it would be a challenge to be in a relationship with someone from a culture different from mine… but maybe I should have said “why not?” After all, it’s my only option, since I’m the only me in the world! And just because I recognize that it would be a challenge (as even monocultural relationships are) doesn’t mean I wouldn’t like it.
And there was a question that referred to my country of origin… I don’t remember what question that was… but I had to stop and think about which country that must be. I finally decided it probably was not the country where I was born.

Oh, yeah, and it was 53% worldliness…
and I remembered another question with which I had a problem. One that asks about the country that I would most like to revisit, and how close the culture is to my own. I thought about that and finally ended up saying that it was somewhat like my own… because I think my own is quite simply a combination of the cultures where I grew up… even though those are different from each other. That was kind of an impossible question for me. I could just as well have said that it was exactly the same, thinking of that country’s culture as my own, or I could have said that it was very different, arbitrarily picking a different country’s culture as my own.
Did anyone else have trouble with that question?

I think one flaw to this quiz is the knowledge part. I think questions involved Africa and Europe, but not Asia where I grew up about 2/3 of my life.
