TCKID Postcards - Send a postcard and receive one back from another TCK

OK, I’m not sure how this crazy idea started…. I think someone mentioned sending a postcard to another third culture kid just for fun and see how many countries that postcard would travel to. (was it me?.. I don’t remember lol)

Anyway, if you want to join in and would like to send or receive a postcard, just subscribe here and email your home address.

Ok guys, here is how we’re going to do it.  2 things will happen, one thing is definitely going to happen and the other is optional.

1) TCKid.com Official Postcard Relay/Experiment (or along those lines): One person will send out this postcard with the title written at the back.  The person will sign his/her name on it and location, put this in an envelope along with instructions and mail it to the next person on the mailing list.  The next person that receives it will sign his/her number after the first person, put it in an envelope and mail it to the next person on the list.  Rinse and repeat.  An address will be given to you once you sign up.  By the way, you don’t get to keep this postcard.

2) Postcard Exchange:This is for those that want to receive postcards from various parts of the world and wouldn’t mind providing their mailing address to other people.  This is optional but you get to keep the postcards!  So when you get a response from the mailing list, please also specify whether you’d like to make your address public when you send in your address.  If you say yes then we will send you a list of addresses that you can send postcards to (we will determine how many addresses).

Once you have received the official TCKid.com postcard, please post here to let us know you have received it so we can keep track, in case the postcard gets lost somewhere (we hope it does not get lost and then show up 30 years later on someone else’s doorstep!).  This is an experiment we want to try and hopefully it travels far and wide!! :)

More details will be sent with the email after you sign up :)

By the way there is NO deadline for this so keep the addresses coming! :)

can I participate in this, even if the brazilian post is on strike? LOL

Mish: read it again ignoring the “(rinse and repeat)” words. It might make more sense.
#6 will be repeated cause you might get many postcards.

I has a question, Brice: We’ll have to send the postcard in an envelope, right? cause otherwise, how will we write so many adresses in one card? the post offices will get lost, lol :D

    oh, and what about this?

Yes Brice, you are to blame. Well, I am too because I was your Muse. So all hate mail/postcards are welcome :)

    lol

Okay, Brice, you have one postcard on the way to see you as we speak. I am sending everyone different postcards with different perspectives because I have lived in several spots in L.A.. Everyone feel free to scan them and email them forward :)

    So yeah. I am down…!!

Maybe cut the postmark off the envelope and paste it on the back of the postcard.

That way there’ll be proof of how many countries the postcard went to in the end. :)

Mish, after you register, you’ll receive an email and you can reply to it whenever you want to request an address.

Maira, LOL cute lolcat :D and yeah! Use envelopes guys!

MsMerising, I’m looking forward to it! :)

    Another question I received:

“Are we supposed to send the SAME post-card to multiple people (as in i send you a post-card, with a line written on it, in an envelope and then you send it onto the next person in the same way adding another line?). OR are we to receive a post-card and then send a different one to the next person on the list?”

You can send as many postcards as you want! And use the postcards you receive to send them to other people.

Simply request an address after you register. After you request an address, you will also receive a postcard for someone else.

    Another question:

“Is there a way to log who gets the postcard?”

Hmm… good question. So far the best way to keep a log on where that postcard travels to is to assign an ID # to that card.. hmm.. or write on it when you get it.

When you get the card, just comment on the thread with the card’s ID #. Write down your username, date, and country on the postcard when you get it. :)

    Brice - you’re making it complicated :)

I am sending a postcard and my job is done. Than I expect to receive some back.

Um #1) Panda is VERY confused and #2) I think this will cause a lot of confusion because we will have many many many many postcards floating around and harder to keep track? and #3) who wouldn’t want to keep their postcards?! I’d keep mine! No sharing! LOL

But joking aside, I think there are 2 things going on here:
    1) Send ONE postcard and see how far it travels and
    2) Send a postcard to whoever signed up to receive postcards :D

So are we doing 1, 2 or both? (I personally like both, we can have one “official” TCKid.com postcard going around another just to send to other people for fun :D)

Let’s take a poll, who wants to do 1, 2 or both?

    I too, vote for both!
