Skype cast - TCK Central
Hi everyone, my name is Michael, I was born in Australia but grew up from Mexico to USA to Papua New Guinea to USA and back again. I returned to Australia in 1991, when I was 18. Up until that point, I had spent 3 years of my life in Australia, 2 of which I remember.
Anyway … I like using Skype, I’m sure many of you do. I’m going to be hosting some Skypecasts, I’m calling it TCK Central. The idea is that we can get together online and make our own community, sharing our experiences and saving money on therapy. I’m going to be on there at various times between GMT (Zulu) 0700h and 1400h, just get onto the Skypcasts site and search for TCK, you’ll find it.
Feel free to make suggestions here on how this could work better/differently.
Cheers,
Michael Earley

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention … I’m trying to re-learn French, so if there are any TCKs out there who speak French and want to help me practise speaking it, and laugh at my very funny French, please jump on Skype and add me to your Contact list - I’m “wish2bflying”.
Buckle up …

Well that was vaguely entertaining. I waited for a while and then ended up chatting to some Danish guy until my wife told me she’s getting internet envy.
I’ll post here again when I’m about to jump on and set up another Skypecast, and I’ll post the link to the Skypecast web page to make it easier to join in.
Happy days …

Looks like putting a URL into a message means it gets moderated. I’m in the SkypeCast for a while, please jump onto Skype and connect in.
I’ll stay online for a couple of hours while I’m working on some other stuff, and we’ll see who pops up.

Skypecasting seems to have bombed out (can’t connect to the Skypecast server!). I hope I didn’t kill it. Ah well … another time maybe.

Thanks Ayako … hey are you Japanese? I just found out about “kikokushijo” –> “returnee children”. I remember we had a Japanese exchange student who brought her 3 year old daughter with her, and she told us about how she would have to beat the Western influence out of her daughter when they returned to Japan. Hmmm.

wish2bflying: That just about sums up the Japanese attitude toward TCKs.
And yes, I’m Japanese.

Ayako … errrr, it’s “wish2bFLYING” …
I find Japanese culture very interesting. On one hand, they lead the world in weird stuff on tv, but then they seem to also have a very protective tendency to maintain their identity at the cost of the individual.

wish2bflying: Corrected the typo in the above post while I was at it…:p Well ‘the cost of the individual’ isn’t important there because it’s a ‘given’ that individuals will sacrifice for the whole. If you label them as ’socialist capitalists’ it will explain a lot of things.

Thanks Ayako, I got an email from Brice and signed up for that one. We’ve been chatting about the possibility of helping out. I’m happy to do what I can.
I’m still online … getting tired of listening to myself though. I recorded the wikipedia page on TCKs and I’m just playing that back on the Skypecast, waiting for someone who speaks English and is actually a TCK to come along. Not exactly a big audience in this time zone I guess.
Thinking about finding some background elevator music …

Thanks Michael! 54 people signed up to the TCK Teleconference this morning so we do need some help.
If you have the time and the skills, it sounds like this is right up your alley and you can make a difference.

hey Michael, I added you to Skype but it still says “waiting authorisation”
I hope I can catch you online someday, despite the timezone difference (I’m on GMT -3)
oh, and you should totally talk to Brice about these teleconferences, cause I think it’s kind of what your skypecasts are. We’d love to have your help!

No worries, I’ll be on there in about an hour or so, but I need to do some other stuff this afternoon so I may or may not be on Skypecast.

Maira, I think I must have declined your request as I didn’t recognise the name and I get a lot of requests from people that I don’t accept because most of them are just looking for someone to practice English with.
I’ve added you to my list …
