Introducing Verena. Born in Germany, moved to Mexico and South Korea. I’m searching for TCKs in Spain

Hi everybody!

My name is Verena and I moved to a little city called Xátiva near Valenzia (Spain) about a year ago. I am 31 years old and work here as a biologist. I was born in Germany but moved to Mexico when I was 6 years old and spend there all of my school time. I went back to Germany and studied biology in Rostock. As for that I am the “bussiness” TCK type. I had the chance to move with my parents to South Korea some years ago but as I am getting older I desperately search for the feeling of belonging to some place. I am getting tired of moving around, beeing always the “new one”, making new friends and try to fit in… Valenzia should be my last stop but as a TCK you can never be sure about that, right?

I would like to meet other TCK´s… share my and their experiences and of course make new friends. It would be awesome if even some of you live near by to meet someday!

Waiting for any replays soon! Verena

Hey Verena! It's nice to have someone who's had a similar life to mine! I was born in Mexico city, then I moved to Paris when I was three, then when I was 10 I moved to Seul, after 5 years i went back to Mexico but moved to Spain (La Rioja) about a year ago and planning on moving to Salamanca next year. I am however, hoping to go to Valencia someday, I hear it's a beautiful city.
So, welcome and I hope we'll be in touch!
  • Hi Verena,

I understand your wish of settling down completely. But, as a TCKID you really never know! I turned this year 44 and still don't know where I'll be in three years! Born and lived in Beirut, Greece, Switerland and Egypt as a daughter of a TCKMother I just could never stop travelling and moving. Even after giving birth to a lovely daughter I moved appartments every two years until I decided to settle down. I got tired and found a nice place in Basel (Switzerland). You wouldn't believe it, my daughter is soon grown up and I am allready thinking of moving again! So you see, nothing is sure as a TCK. Luckily Switzerland is in the center so every now and then I travel around, also often to Spain. Maybe on my next trip we could meet for a coffee and exchange opinions. I have never met another TCK in my live apart my family! Or if anybody passes through Basel, I'd be delighted to welcome a TCK here.
    Global greetings
    Yvonne

    Hi Verena,

sounds interesting what you have experienced!

I Would like to support you to feel at home in Spain! I'm a dutch Atckid who has lived in Austria for a long time ( so we could speak german) and after several moves have come to Madrid, Spain! I know Valencia is too far in order to just hop over for a cup of coffee, but if you ever come to Madrid , let me know!
I'm a psychologist and thrilled with the expat topic! So welcome to join us here!
  • Welcome to TCKid.com Verena! :) I'm with you with tired of moving! I seem to have a tradition of moving every year (moving apartments, not necessarily moving locations) and I'm just so done with it! But I really don't think this will end any time soon. I don't know, I guess grass is always greener on the other side haha. But I am hoping I can finally settle in a few more years.

As a tradition on TCKid.com, here's your welcoming LOLcat pic :)

    Hi Verena,

    Welcome to our forums.

I'm an ATCK and I live in Costa del Sol. Unlike you, I don't even speak Spanish and I have moved here, brought property and it looks like I'm going to end-up living here for a long time. All of this was decided in a moment of temporary insanity that often strikes TCKs when they go crazy trying to repatriate to their own countries. Anywhere is better than your passport country right? :p

If you're in the Malaga area let me know and we can get together. :)

    Best wishes,

    Ayako
  • Verena, welcome! I can relate to you in getting tired of moving around, always having to explain my history (it takes up a lot of energy to explain who i am. if i don't explain where i grew up i feel that that's not me!). I am afraid I don't live in Spain but I hope you will be connected with (A)TCKs in your area :)
