Proverbs from Around the World
This post has 545 views
So I was reading a book on Arab proverbs we have here and thought it would be cool to have a post about proverbs from other languages. So here are a few Arab proverbs to get it started. Law du a’al-kalb yastajab, kan bitishti al-dunya izan.
If the dog’s prayers were answered, the skies would rain bones.
English equivalent- If wished were horses, beggars would ride.
Illi yakul ‘ala dirsu yinfa’ nafsu
He who chews with his own teeth benefits himself
english equivalent- God helps those who help themselves.
kull bayt wa fishi balu’a
Every house has its sewers
Equivalent- There is a black sheep in every flock
‘Abu ‘l-ward, qulu khaddu ahmar
They criticised the rose, tehy said its cheek was red
equivalent- you find fault with a fat goose
I’ll post some more latter maybe.
What do you think of this post?

Here is one I found a while ago that I really like. It is an Arab one too.
A friend is one to whom one may pour out all the contents of one’s heart, chaff and grain together, knowing that the gentlest of hands will take and sift it, keep what is worth keeping, and with the breath of kindness, blow the rest away.

These two I found on the internet:
“If there is light in the soul
there will be beauty in the person
if there is beauty in the person
there will be harmony in the house
if there is harmony in the house
there will be order in the nation
if there is order in the nation
there will be peace in the world”-Chinese Proverb
The soul would have no rainbow
if the eyes had no tears.
- Indian proverb
This one I found when I was in China:
The real wealth is happiness, not money, the real poverty is ignorance, not want of money.”
- Buddhist saying.
