Personality Disorder

I am currently writing a social work dissertation and I have looked at the definition of Personality Disorder (PD). I wonder if someone has specifically written about PD and TCKs or ATCKs. I have found several journals on migration, mental health, stress and so forth but nothing specifically written about PD and TCK s.

Any help is much appreciated

    Sachaxx,

I’ve been looking for information about the same topic. Not for school but my own personal interest.

I have a PD - Borderline Personality Disorder that my therapist attribute to my TCK upbringing such as loosing “home” at an early age, the constant moving and repeated goodbyes, as well as felling like I was the odd one out.

Also the many, if not all of my “trigger” that causes my emotions to go into overdrive are directly related to being a TCK, specifically in regards to my cultural identity or having to explain where I am from.

It would be very interesting and helpful to understand the psychological effects of TCK experiences.

    Hi there,
I just joined this site and read your comment with great interest. I’m currently living in Beijing and doing a program in Mental Health Counseling that is offered online through the University of Massachusetts Boston.

From what I understand from the literature, TCKs have been a very under-researched group. Issues that directly impact our mental well-being such as identity formation and grief have not been reflected in any reserach papers (at least so far I have not been able to find any). It seems also that clinical outcome studies on psychotherapy with adolescents still have a long way to go, let alone specifically for TCKs. I guess given the TCKs transient life styles plus the fact that some issues may be dealt with much later in adult life makes it really hard for researchers to investigate.

I completely agree with you that there is a real need for research to understand the psychological effects of TCK experiences.
