Hi

Have finally found a place that has people like me! So I’ll say something about myself as an introduction. My parents are Czech, they emmigrated in 1968, I was born in Canada, moved with my parents to Bangladesh when I was 2, I  lived there for 15 years but during that time, I spent a few years in the United States, went to boarding school in India, lived in Sri Lanka for four years and then moved to Switzerland where I now live. I changed school 8 times in 12 years,  speak a few languages besides English and have travelled pretty much all over.

Nice to meet everyone!

    Welcome to TCKid, Evscha!

My parents immigrated/emigrated to the US too when I was two years old! However I haven’t lived in as exciting places as you have! haha

We’re all pretty friendly here, and feel free to poke around the site or the chatroom/wall!

Evscha, I have two questions for you.

How do you pronounce your name?

And.. is it common to attend a boarding school in India while living in Bangladesh? (Sorry if this question leads to like 10-pg worth of explanation)

Anywho, I am glad you joined us!

Well my name is Eva the sch is the beginning of my second name, Schawohl, so I put the two together to form a screen name, Evscha. Never tried to pronounce it though the sch sounds like sh.
I don’t know how common it is to go to boarding school in India while living in Bangladesh, there were 26 of us on the flights out after vacations! The reason I was sent was because there just wasn’t a school left in Dhaka for me to attend! At the time the American School only went up to 9th grade and the other English medium schools were either not very good or weren’t accredited. As my father was also working in India at the time, it seemed like the most logical conclusion. The other option would have been Singapore, but there was a question about expense. India is just cheaper.
Most expat kids in Bangladesh either went to India or to Singapore, although almost all the British kids went home to the UK to boarding school.
I don’t know if I ever really “found out” I am TCK, that almost sounds like OCD….but considering the multitude of cultures in my background and the fact that I do get asked odd questions like “you don’t look like someone from Bangladesh” or “did you have problems with tigers in India? Did you use a camel to go to school?” I suppose I am somewhat different from mono-culture people.
