MK Abuse: A Resource

Hi,

Brice has been good enough to let me join up as a non TCK, because I represent an organization called MK Safety Net, which provides support and other services to adults who were abused (sexually or otherwise) while attending overseas schools operated by various missionary agencies.

One of the reasons we are so pleased with Brice’s openness to us is that over the years, a number of individuals who were not children of missionaries attended the schools in question — children of foreign service personnel and commercial firms stationed in remote locations. Some of them were abused as well. We’d like to have an outreach to those individuals also, and this seems like an ideal place to do that.

MK Safety Net has a web site at http://www.mksafetynet.net/ and we’d invite folks to take a look at it. We also have a Yahoogroup at http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/mkadvocates/ that is dedicated to an exchange of ideas, information, and support for individuals who are survivors of abuse in mission schools.

MKSN is not associated with any denomination — our folks range all over the place when it comes to their religious beliefs or non-beliefs. We’re there to just be a helping hand to folks who have survived and are living their lives.

Thanks for considering taking a look at the web site and Yahoogroup.

Best to you all.

Rich Phillips

    Hi,

    Thanks for those good words.

As I mentioned, one of our concerns is for children (now adults) of parents who were working for the foreign service or commercial firms.

It seems to us that they might be a bit less likely to know about the resources available to them for having their abuse claims investigated and resolved by the denomination involved.

Perhaps more importantly, we also just want to be a friendly contact point for them as they work to incorporate their childhood experiences into life today.

    Best to you all.
