‘lo
lo everyone. I’m an australian-new zealander who was born in australia. I’ve only lived in SE Asia, and some people would say that that wouldn’t be too hard, but my earliest memories are from being 6. I moved onto a boat and start sailing when I was 5. As a kid, i’ve never really played with kids my age. I think that during the 8 years of sailing and living for short times in different places, the only time i played with an english speaking kid who wasn’t 4 years older than me, was when i was 7. That kid was 9 1/2. I was Distance Edded and went to school for a full year for the first time when i was 10. Soon after that my da moved away, and i begun to figure out the reason kids hated me. They didn’t understand that i wasn’t angry, I was sensitive and unused lots of people. When I visit Australia, people mock my accent which to them is new zealand-english-american-asian. Um…. Hello???? i’m AUSTRALIAN!!! thank you for alienating me! In NZ it’s the same, except swap NZ with Australian.
I go to a school with heaps of other TCK but they’re all older, almost finished school. In 6 months I move again, to the most foriegn country ever. The one I was born in

hey Yachtie!
I get how you feel about “They didn’t understand that i wasn’t angry, I was sensitive”
People still treat me like that when I say something bad about my “home” country here. Even though I repatriated when I was 7, I still feel like an alien here …
I’m only now learning how to sail, but I think it’s really cool that you grew up on a boat!!!
Welcome to TCKid!

When I went to New Zealand when I was 7 years old or so, the kids laughed saying I sounded like an American.
Then after a year of living there - I returned to the compound in the Philippines and all the Americans laughed and said I sounded British (they can’t tell the difference between the different un-American accents) :p
