Librarian Blogspot Q&A
Hey y’all
So Brice (very nicely) appointed me the “Librarian” of TCKID. And i was wondering if i could get your suggestions/advice?
I had a few suggestions and anted your opinions…
1. I was thinking of reviewing/ commenting upon/bringing to your attention not only books but newspaper articles (of which i have quite a few) and TV shows that relate to TCKs in some way (or being displaced, not belonging etc). or, if i love the book i’ll just review it anyway! Hee. 
2. I was going to review 2 books per month. And i thought of creating a thread per book so that we can discuss it before i put up my final review to incorporate quotes from all of you.
3. Feel free to make suggestions!! It can be anything you’d like me to check out: it doesn’t need to neccessarily be about TCKs specifically — i’m alwas open for new books/cartoons/TV shows/films :-).
So i’m off my soapbox now — the floor’s all yours!

Isa, great ideas! Cartoons and TV shows! YES!… I haven’t thought of that, but I’m definitely interested. hehe

Hey there.. Congrats on your librarianship.
I’m already excited! Lol. There’s this really interesting tv series called Aliens in America. It’s a great show and it does educate people, but in a subtle, humorous way. You’ve probably heard of it.. Not actual TCK stuff, but more on how people understand different cultures. I hope it’s still on air… Please do check it out!

I’m always down to learn something new so count me in! Can you create a group for all interested parties to join??
I am very curious about the movie/TV/book perspectives you will present. I have been obsessively collecting movies on eBay about “Ethnic” minorities in Australia/New Zealand to observe how we are depicted as we so invisible to the rest of the world who assume Australia is an “Anglo” paradise (with a whole bunch of Aboriginals that ONLY live in the “outback” lol).

I have been focusing on movies/TV shows because books have been harder to find.
Of course, there is the “father” of racial stereotyping “They’re A Weird Mob” by an Englishman who writes under the pseudonym Nino Culotti.
Christos Tsiolkas “Loaded”. The movie “Head On” was based on this. However, these works are heavily homosexual so some folks may not be able to deal with it.
I notice most “Ethnic” fiction in Oz is geared to the teen reading market. Melina Marchetta’s “Looking for Alibrandi” & “Saving Francesca”. There was also another teen book I found called “Does My Head Look Big In This?” by Randa Abdel-Fattah. This book dragged on a little with all the text but what I found most revealing where the adult moments especially with her uncle and the Greek neighbour.
