Since Brice added this feature, I figured I might want to add something about myself, so that people who aren’t familiar with the inside jokes we toss around might not get the wrong opinion of me. There’s a fair possibility that they really believe I think I’m godly, and the people on this site are my digital worshippers.
Unlikely, but then you never know.
Anyway, my name is Daniel Nguyen-Phuoc. My story actually starts with my parents. They are both Vietnamese, and left Vietnam after high school to study abroad. Unfortunately, within a year of their leaving, Saigon was captured by the NVA, and they got messages from their families saying “Come to Boston, we have no money to support you.” They met there, and my sister and I were the result. We were born in Houston, my parents having moved there for my dad’s job. He was working for an oil company at the time, and they had interests in Indonesia… so when I was 3-4 years old, I moved there.
I went to the British International School there, which my parents preferred over the American one because it was more disciplined, and I stayed there until I graduated from the International Baccalaureate. I went back to the US to attend university at the University of Michigan -Ann Arbor. It was, overall, a failure, but I found the experience to be a maturing and learning one. By then, my parents had moved to Zürich, Switzerland, and had me stay with them while I worked out what I could do. After a couple of months learning German, we found that hospitality colleges were the only higher education facilities teaching fully in English, so I started within a month or so later.
Two years onwards, I’ve almost graduated from my degree, and see my life continuing onwards to more countries and places. I take interest in a lot of things, but especially meeting new people and having new experiences… I also like to write and talk a lot about things I’m interested in, so I hope you’re also interested in what I am.
