I’m Nik.
Hello.
I’m Nik. I only heard there was such a label as “TCK” yesterday. I’m 22 years old with a rather worn passport.
I was born in CA, but as a baby moved to Japan where my family stayed until I was about 6. Japanese was my first language but I’ve forgotten it since then. I don’t remember a whole lot about Japan except for a few friends, toy stores, and my sisters being born. We moved back to CA, where we stayed until my family was given a mission in Costa Rica, and we moved on my 14th birthday. My dad managed a newspaper there called Tiempos Del Mundo. eventually the educational system there didn’t work out for me so at the age of 16 (and a half) I was sent to boarding school in Connecticut. I finihsed highschool there, and moved onto the local private school, The University of Bridgeport. went back to Costa Rica for summers and winters. those of you who don’t know what bridgeport is like… well the county (Fairfield County) is one of the richest counties in the states (if not THE richest) but bridgeport is one of the neediest cities in the US. UB is a good school, but I lived right next door to dilapidated housing-projects and high traffic drug-dealers.
anyways…I graduated with a BA in Literature/Creative Writing, and now live in California (bay area)
I guess I have typical signs of TCKs, feeling apart from everything and whatnot.
well… There I am.

Wow Nik, welcome to tckid! You just heard of this TCK label yesterday? I’ll give you a proper welcome soon with a lolcat, but for now I’m really curious to know how you found out you were a TCK, and how did you find out about tckid?
Welcome to the forum! It’s good to see you here, and you’re not alone as you can see, TCKs are in huge numbers.
Have you read the book yet?

Hi
I just heard of TCK very recently too! And I absolutely relate to boarding school + summer and winter back with parents as a teenager!

Hello Nik! Welcome to TCKid.com!
I didn’t hear about TCK until over a year ago and it has changed a lot of my perspectives about myself
In fact it gave me the confidence that I have lacked…I just feel really good
Oh btw, I am currently in CT. Actually in the Hartford County. I’ve never been to Bridegeport though but I know that Fairfield is quite rich - compared to the rest of the state.

I found out about tckid just this summer. And yeah, you’re a TCK alright!
It’s good to know. Answers lots of questions.
See ya at the chatroom hopefully. Warning though, it’s addicting.

I’m sorry I have not yet read the book (what book?)
I found out the other night when I went to my aunt’s church’s college-group, where I spoke a lot with the youth minister who himself is a TCK from chile, congo, and india I think. anyways he said there was quite a lot of research done on “people like us”, so I thought I’d wikipedia the term. the whole internet query snowballed and I eventually found this site.

I miss CT a lot, actually…
it’s the first place I started having a real social-life, so I feel a strong connection with the east coast.
but yeah, houses in the city of Westport go for about 2 million dollars MINIMUM. and they’re not mansions or anything, just regular two story houses.

Nikc, Wikipedia is awesome! Since you just found out you were a TCK last night, you’ll love reading the TCK book. That youth minister you talked to was right, there is a lot of research (and a boook!) which answers many of the questions on TCK issues as well as maximizing the benefits. I bought my own copy, and I can tell you that it’s a life saver. I highly recommend you get your copy too, you can read reviews and an overview of the content here:
