I probably wouldn’t have posted but….
I submitted my email when I registered and Brice kept sending me those introductory emails encouraging me to post and making it known that I’m not alone. So here I am, introducing myself. The emails were kinda sweet.
Hi. I’m Clarissa.
I’m a 29 year old Third Culture Kid whose still learning the lingo and definitions about this whole third culture kid cross cultural kid stuff. I live in Saint Paul, MN and I can’t wait to leave.
My father’s company sent him to India when I was 10 and I lived there until I was 13. However, that was the first time I’d lived in one place for that long - even as a child in the States we’d move every year or so. So those three years in India was where I first experienced some stability. Also growing up with odd and seeking parents much of my time was spent on communes and in what many consider to be religious cults.
So I’ve always felt foreign and like an outsider. Truthfully, the only times I didn’t feel so glaringly different have been in other countries when I’ve been the obvious foreigner. I’ve traveled back to India several times as well as Nepal and have lived in Kenya and Tanzania as well.
I’d love to talk to someone who didn’t think I was weird.
I still move every year. Even in the same state. I get antsy when I’m in one place too long.
Anyway, hi! Sorry if this was long winded.

Yay! Welcome to TCKID Clarissa! I’m glad you enjoyed the emails, and I hope you’ll find the community to be a very nice and helpful group!
Yes, there are actually a lot of adult TCKs here.
How old are you?

That active, multi-tasking mind is nice and all, but you have to pick up the details.

Tee Hee,
I wanted to say something like that Uncle Dan but I couldn’t think of anyway to say it without sounding snotty. You, as his friend, said it perfectly!
HI again Brice, don’t worry, I miss stuff like that as a way of life. And thank you for the welcome and thank you for all of your encouraging emails - even if they were mass mailings.

Hi Clarissa,
I’m 42 and lived in Kenya(Nairobi) from 1977 - 1985. When and where were you there? I’m also pretty new to the whole ATCK/forum/cyber-camaraderie entity also. Welcome and enjoy!

Hey Clarissa.
Yeah can relate to you when it comes to hanging around non mainstream religions. I lived in the middle east for years and because me and my family were so adventerous we hung around allot of many religous sects. Such as the Druz, Bhai’s, Sufi’s and the like that take a less than mainstream view of the world. These groups have given me a different perspective upon life. And because if that I too feel different from others.
Also remember the world is not MN and you will find people who can appercitat your unique life. I live in a small town where my life experinces are seen as weird but i remind myself that this is not the end.
