i guess this is where i start…

it’s been pretty amazing reading other people’s stories, also comforting to know that i’m not the only one out there that has an identity problem. =P

a little bit about myself: born in Texas to Chinese parents (from HK), moved to Mexico, then Tanzania, then Nigeria, then back to Mexico, then to Taiwan, moved to Missouri to go to college and now living and working in Minneapolis, MN. i have friends that try to tell my story for me and still can’t get it straight…so exactly where am i from? i don’t know and i absolutely don’t like it when people ask me that question

maybe it’s because i live in the mid-west, i’ve met very few people that are TCKs…very few people understand where i’m coming from and yes i feel out of place all the time. but you learn to adapt and fit in somewhat. =P

let's see, where do we start...hmm... Parents from HongKong, born in Texas, lived in Mexico, Tanzania, Nigeria, Taiwan and currently living in Minnesota (go figure)

    Hi Lilian,
I live in Illinois which is not that far from Minneapolis :)

I think it sucks to feel out of place and be around people who don’t get it and no matter how much you explain they forget that you are from all over the place and some people remember but can’t fully relate with you. phew.. I am sorry if I am making total assumptions here because this is at least how I feel after many frustrations lol not that I don’t love people. Oh my gosh, I love my friends and I love people and yet sometimes I think I want to let it out of my system you know. That feeling of misunderstood and underestimated. Do you know what I mean? XD

Welcome Lilian! :) I actually enjoyed my time in the midwest and met some pretty cool TCK friends (although not that many) while I was in college :) (In fact I went to the same school that Miyon is currently attending).

Well, at least you’re looking in the right place Lilian! Yeah Minni can be a drag, but so is most of the red states. Jump the border to Canada and you’ll feel at home again. Highly recommended.

However, if you scratch the surface hard enough (which can be difficult to do), you’ll be pleasantly surprised…
