How do you support someone you love who is going through a hard time, on the otherside of the globe?

Today, my brother called me from Singapore. A very close friend of his died today. I could hear how much pain he was in from his voice, and it absolutely killed me inside knowing that my brother was in Singapore, hurting like hell, and I am stuck in Denmark, on the other side of the bloody world. Being a TCK, I am not always with the people I love when they need me, and usually when they need me, a phone call can suffice, but some body dieing? Nothing is enough then.
Being in a different place limits the things that I can do to help them, and it really makes me feel so incredibly helpless. My brother and I are extremely close. The last time he lost someone he cared about I was with him. But now, this time, I am not. And as much as I know that there are other people that can help him right now, it doens’t make it any easier, being this far away from him when I know he needs me.
Luckily I am flying out to ‘pore next week and will arrive early friday morning.
I REALLY hope the funeral isnt till I arrive, because I told him if the funeral happened after I got to ‘pore I would stand beside him at the funeral. I don’t want him going alone.
anyone know how fast funerals happen in ‘pore?

I just wondered, when you guys are away from your family or close friends and they are going through a hard time, what do you do? Not only to help them but to keep you sane as well. I’ve felt like I have been loosing my mind the entire day, just knowing what he is going through.

Half Danish, Half Irish Lived in: Luxembourg, Switzerland, England, Ireland, Singapore Now I'm living in Denmark... Which in itself, though not very exotic is definetly an interesting experience. Not to mention all the pastries... Somebody save me from obesity, I just can't stop eating them!!

I just had a crazy idea:
call him and tell him to hug a pillow and you do the same. This would be kind of a “virtual hug” :D, so you can pretend you’re hugging him and he’s hugging you.

I hope you don’t feel upset about my suggestion (I know it’s not the same as being there!), I just want to help :)
