Hello, I’m Priyanka
This post has 297 views
So, I’m only doing this for a lolcat welcome pic. Hah, kidding… Sort of.
I’m Priyanka, born in Zimbabwe, raised in Botswana and South Africa, now living in New York. My parents are both from Mauritius, of Indian and some other descent (they’ve never bothered to find out what exactly). They have no idea what TCKs are. I didn’t know what that was either until very recently - yay facebook - but I think that my defining TCK moment came in my US Foreign Policy class, when the professor asked everyone willing to die for their country to raise their hand. I was the only one who didn’t. I was trying to figure out which one to die for and got very confused -_-
Anyone want to share their own TCK moments?
What do you think of this post?

Which country to die for? eeh…. I wouldn’t die for any country lol
OK I have a question.. (and I’ll also use that for the lolcat welcome lol)
Do you ever plan on settling or keep traveling?

whoa, die for your country??? that is HECTIC!
reminds me of 9/11, i was living in DC at the time, when the phones finally began working again a lot of friends were calling me to see if i was alright, seeing as i lived in DC, i was amazed at how many of my american friends (theatre majors to boot, i.e. the woosiest and self-claiming most open minded of them all)talked of joining the army now that the U.S was at war.
frightening.

I had a weird TCK moment during the last World Cup. Ecuador played a game against Mexico. I very passionately wanted both to win. I didn’t like the Mexican commentators because they disparaged the Ecuadorian team — even though I knew they were right and it was no surprise when Mexico won. That game put me in a bad mood. I think I would have felt the same way no matter which side had lost.

Hmm I don’t think I’d die for any country either to tell the truth. And I do NOT plan on settling anytime soon… NY is so boring right now. I feel the urge to move.

Hey
Whoa thats a bit…. drastic isn’t it? I toyed with the idea of joining the ADF (Australian Defence Force) but realised that not only am i not the military type, that it wld not be emotionally healthy for me to enlist to help a country fight when i have spent the last 11 yrs either hating this country or wanting to escape it. I also thought of joining the US Foreign Service … but then, i realised that i wld b a stranger in the US also.
I think that that is why i have always had a fascination with the UN — you are international and so shld not have a … attatchment? to one particular country.

I really dont get nationalism. I mean for me it’s so non-sensical. Why is “your” country better than someone else’s country just because you happened to be born there. So many problems come from nationalism.
