Hello! My Name Is…

[Edited: 1/03/08]

To those that don’t know me yet, my name is Cynthia (aka Panda) and I am a quarter of a century old as of Dec 2007. I am a LP (Linkin Park) freak and a total geek when it comes to electronics and the internet. I can get pretty random at times and have been completely brainwashed by Brice with LOLcats.

‘Nuf with the useless info…how about something more useful? I was born in Taiwan. At 3 years old, I rode the plane for the first time with my family and landed in Indonesia. I lived in Surabaya, Bandung and Jakarta. 5 years later, the family moved to Bangkok and we’ve been there for 8 years. After that, I started and finished high school in Shanghai, China. My parents have been there since. After high school I went to college in the States and studied engineering in Illinois. Now I’m back in Shanghai for work.

Next stop: Europe!

Just to prove that I have been completely brainwashed by Brice:

  • Cool stuff, love to hear about thailand. Interesting read all around!
  • (Hmm, odd, I wrote a long comment just now and it disappeared o.O)

Hi Mary! Thanks for your message :) I found you on Facebook and have sent you a note :)

Hi Michael! Thanks for responding! Usually people just respond immediately after the comment regardless of which entry the comment is in, it's just easier that way. But now that you have posted here I'll include my response here :)

You can reach me however you like. You can email me at cynthiayang AT tckid DOT com (I have to do this otherwise the spam filter will get rid of it or something lOL) or you can find me through Facebook (just 'Cynthia Yang' with UIUC network) if you use it. Or you can just post here like you did :)

I love Thailand, and I was sad when I had to leave (I actually wrote an entry about this on this website) but I finally found closure early this year :)

Sorry you couldn't see your LOLcat :( Yea it's due to this new temporary layout deal so I don't know when the pictures will be back up.

To anyone reading this, feel free to add me on Facebook! :) Just don't forget to leave me a note so I know who you are and how you found me (otherwise I'd just go "ignore" - too many creepy people out there o.o)
  • Hey Cynthia,
It took me a while to get back to my intro...I had some travel and just experienced Hong Kong for the first time, wow...Anyway, I'm still not sure the best way to navigate this cool site, for instance, should I reply to you on my own intro site, or come over here to yours, or what? My LOLcat didn't actually show up! Just a tag naming what it Would Have looked like...so sad. Maybe that is bc. of the new setup?

Anyway, I liked your intro, and visited Bandung a couple years ago on a school accredidation trip. I was impressed with the school and the folks there. Thailand has also been a part of our lives for several visits, friends who live there, and a school in Chang Mai that we came This Close to moving to...Have been to Shanghai a couple of times as well. What is your favorite place in China?

Thanks for writing...now, where will I find it if you write back...so confusing for me...:)

    Hi Cynthia,
My name is mary and i contacted Brice through TCKPROJECt about how i could get in touch with some TCKs in Shanghai. After navigating some links that he gave me, i came across your mandarin link in TCKIDS.com. It's interesting to read about your story growing up. I am now in shanghai was wondering if you are still in the city?

just to give you an idea of who i am:
I was born in Shandong, China, went to Nashville when i was 2, then Winnipeg in Canada, then Pittsburg, then back to winnipeg, HK, winnipeg for only a year, macau, hong kong, Toronto, vancouver, tennesse. It's a lot of moving around, i guess. I also visited inner China a lot starting when i was 14 as well and that's become a strong influence for me growing up. I'm from a business/education family and i really don't know any TCKs because i guess, our family associated with native people more than the expat community.

add me on facebook if you'd like :) (mary meimei zhang)

Ok, this is gonna sound REALLY lame but whenever I look at the titles of pages and I'm on this discussion (and it says "Hello! My name is...") I think of that stupid song "my name is..what...my name is.." which i think was by Eminem or something but in any case I just felt the need to tell everyone.
