How Have You Used Your TCK Gifts In the Workplace?

I would love to hear from you.

Coming Soon — The Last TCK Academy Expert Summer Series Interview

Well, it is hard to believe that it has been a few months since Brice and I started the TCK Academy Expert Interview Summer Series!! The word is out!! The TCK Academy is committed to providing quality programming and helpful information for the benefit of the TCKCCK community via teleclasses and web conferences.

As the Mother of four TCKs, it has been 8 years since I was first introduced to the Third Culture Concept. In that time, I have learned a lot about what it means to have lived and raised my children in this internationally mobile and cross cultural lifestyle.

When Brice first proposed that we team up to share our enthusiasm for and about the TCK/CCK community, I jumped at the opportunity! Over these past months, I have thoroughly enjoyed interviewing and interacting with experts whom have proven an abundant wellspring of knowledge and information.

Mark your calendar for Saturday, August 30, 2008 @ 6pm Eastern/3pm Pacific for the LAST call in the TCK Academy 2008 Expert Interview Summer Series featuring Terry Kinnard and Kellie Poulin of The Emergent Coach.

In this 75 minute live interview, Kellie and Terry will be discussing a process called Voice Dialogue. Voice Dialogue is a concept, created by Drs. Hal and Sidra Stone that deals with bringing into our awareness, the many parts or Selves that make up what we identify as our personality.

Voice Dialogue is a non-judgmental, experiential process/tool that offers a profound opportunity to increase your awareness about who you are and what it takes be find “home inside”.

Terry and Kellie will be showing how the magic of this experiential tool can help you to embrace the gift of the parts of you that have been lost in the process of coping with constant moving, global exposure, grief and loss as well as issues of repatriation and fitting in.

Go to The TCK Academy Blog to see more information about this interview.

Remember, if you have a question about growing up in this lifestyle, that you would like to ask Terry and Kellie during the interview, submit it when you sign up for the call.

Ruth Van Reken Quoted in Article on the US Presidential Candidates

I found the comments from readers of the article interesting…. appeared to me that they did not “get it” with reference to what Ruth offered in the article about the influence of the candidate’s TCK backgrounds. Thoughts?

Reminder: Tom Query + Ruth Van Reken Today

Today will be the next TCK Academy expert interview series call with psychotherapist and grief expert Tom Query — “Where in the World is There Comfort for my Grief and Losses.”  Ruth Van Reken will also join Tom on today’s call. This primarily Q&A call should be good.  See you in a few hours. http://tckacademy.com/class/005.

Doing a Talk on TCK Experiences for Minorities

Hello all:

I will be doing a session at this year’s Families in Global Transition Conference in Houston on the TCK experience for minorities. I will primarily be looking at it from a US/Western Perspective, but would appreciate input from all perspectives.

I am primarily seeking input around whether or not there are added layers of complexity for a minority and/or biracial TCKs, not necessarily experienced by majority culture TCKs.

There has been virtually no research on this topic, but the little that has been done, indicates that ethnic TCKs feel more in connection with other TCKs regardless of background or ethnicity. What the literature does not discuss is whether there are issues or concerns that require addressing that would be helpful for parents. educators, counselors, etc to be aware of for minority TCKs upon repatriation or even while outside of their home culture.

I raised my children in the USAF military subculture — with our kids being raised in Asia and moving around domestically in the US , their experiences that come with being military brats/TCKs and being around people from a variety of backgrounds, nationalities, cultures was their  “normal”  in contrast to my experience of having a primary identity, that was impacted by my travels. In this lifestyle, my kids were not accustomed to race being a primary identifier in how others saw them, until they were outside of this environment. For them this was an added layer of complexity upon repatriation.

I would love to hear from you guys. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
