A virtual concept home - an abstract
Here’s my paper on TCK’s and the virtual home- www.tckid.com. Hope it can be of use, inspiration or interest to this forums members. I welcome your comments and thoughts. It was definately the one paper that I have written through my studies that has been most inspiring and that I have been most engaged in researching. Anyways enjoy.

Creating Home: The Internet’s Effect on Third Culture Kids
Something other…
Hey,
In the midsts of my procrastination (I am attempting to study for my exam) I felt the compelled to check in and start a post.
I know that this is a TCK specific site, but what else interests people in here? Small things. Like stories about your weekend, your work day, your partner, a friend…
X,
Lou
HOME
Hi again! I was just wondering what the word “home” means to all of you?
to be Home…
Hello!
I joined earlier this week and said I would write a bit about myself soon so here goes-
First let me start by mentioning how seriously wondrful I find this community to be! You can seriously feel the love and understanding that so many of us endlessly seek and rarely find. So thank you to all of you for being so open and expressive.
Well, me. I was born in Denmark to a Danish mother and a TCK father. He’s half Colombian half Danish and a restless rootless soul. I don’t think I walked my first step before we moved to Colombia. We lived there until I was 8 when because of the dangers we mved back to Denmark. My father then got a job with the UN and we moved to Costa Rica. During our time there, I went to boarding school in Denmark for a year, but in the end I graduated form my high school in Costa Rica. We built a house there and called it home, at least until we yet again had to move. My parents moved to Rio and I to the States and later to Denmark, where I am now getting my master’s.
Like everyone in here I don’t think I’ll ever know where I’m from, I do however know that home is in an experience. It’s when I meet other TCKs that I get that feeling that non-tcks must feel. I get this strong sense of belonging and if only I could build a rough over that and let it be portable I think I would always be home. I have learned to love being a TCK however. It’s like a couture culture that only very privileged few get to experience. I’ve also learned that key (at least) for me is to be where I am and not everywhere else. I used to always be on my way, and now I’ve started unpacking my bags (although the suitcase is not further away than at my arms length!!!). Anyways, you’ve all heard the story so I’ll keep it short!
Much love,
Louise
Identity and a sense of belonging
Dear all tcks,
I am new to the forum (a third culture kid myself) and want to say that I am thrilled for finally finding it’s existence. I’ve been wanting to do something similar for so long, and finally Brice has made it possible. I am so thrilled in fact that I am writing a research paper on the concept.
So if you have a couple of minutes to answer a couple of questions it would be significant to my research.
1. How does being a member of this forum reinforce your identity as a third culture kid?
2. Does this site give you a greater sense of belonging? If so how?
I am in the process of writing my own story to be added to my profile soon. I look forward to being an active member….it’s amazing how the internet has made it possible for us to finally have a place where we can be at “home” even if it is virtual!
Beforhand, thank you to those who respond!
Louise
