My dad's Iranian, my mom's from the United States. I was born in the States and grew up in Costa Rica. I also lived in Honduras and now I call Santa Cruz, Bolivia, home. I recently heard the term 3rd Culture Kid... and it made a lot of things come together.

Hi - half Iranian and half “American” TCK

Hi,

My name’s Laila.  I’m half Iranian and half “American”.  My passport country is the United States… and I’m still surprised by that every time I catch sight of my passport.  I grew up in Costa Rica.  Of the 13 years I lived there I lived in 5 different cities or towns, 8 of those years I lived in a Guaymi indigenous reservation (a whole different culture).  I’ve only gone back to live in my passport country once… I didn’t last very long. I now call Santa Cruz, Bolivia, home and I honestly have no idea where home will be next.
