Anyone else have a ‘Mental Travel Mode’?
Just curious to know, when you guys all travel, do you go into a kind of mental travel mode???
Whenever I travel, from the moment I walk into the airport, sit down on the train, or sit down in the car, I get into this whole mindset, where I know I am about to spend several hours doing nothing.
Hard to really explain, but when I am travelling I actually prefer silence, I like to day dream and look out the window, it is really kinda zenish for lack of a better term
It also makes the time feel like it goes faster, because I just stop noticing the passage of time, as if I am almost in a mental stasis…ehh that sounds a bit weird.
uhhhm well I hope you get my drift… I have just found after having done so much travelling, and all the time it takes, I have been able to kinda switch off my awareness of the passage of time, but I can only do this when travelling. I can actually sit down, for around three hours and stare into space, usually with music playing, without a problem.
I have also developed little travelling idiosyncrasies.
Anyone else?

yeah, my friends think it is so weird, when you go travelling they all say ‘aren’t you really excited????’
but even if I am going to a new country, in a way the whole travelling thing is so routine, that I just don’t get excited.
it doesnt mean I don’t enjoy whereever I go as much as possible, and its not being jaded or anything, I just don’t feel the need to get excited.
I actually get more excited when I go into the city to have a big shopping trip than flying to singapore!

ugh, excited about a long plane trip in coach? no thanks! i get excited when the trip is 4 hours or less because, wel…its 4 hours or less!!!
i usually take one book, because i always fall asleep and wake up in the middle of the movie. or i have this knack of sleeping though the whole movie and waking up right at the end, ugh!
so i usually read a bit, listen to my discman (i have never owned an MP3 player ot ipod or anything like that, more out of laziness and unwillingnes to spend my money on clothes and nothing else than anything…)
stare out the window a lot! hahahhahahahahahaha! yeah, i guess i do a lot of (unwitting) meditation and self analysis on the plane.
oh, but the original question, yes! the DAY i know i am travelling i am in travel mode. the day FEELS different, you know? the way sunday FEELS different to tuesday? like that, and from the moemnt i wake up i am in travel mode. my toiletries are set out so that as soon as i shower that day i pack them, and i only have one outfit to wear because everything else is packed, i have lists of errands to make sure are all done, gotta call the person picking me up one last time, all that sort of stuff. i LOVE IT, i am almost a little disappointed when i get on the plane, because now all i have to do is just wait til i get there…

Exactly! speaking of technology, I want an ipod shuffle (I’ve recently found out that my school library lends mp3 players to students for free for one week. I am excited about that) =P

I catch up with movies I’ve missed out on cinema, too! I like playing with the foreign language features and try some scenes of the movies in different languages. This never bores me XD

I always flip through all the language channels, if Its a movie I’ve seen before I watch it in one of the languages I don’t speak and try to understand it
