American/EU TCK

My mom is German and my dad is American but I grew up in the middle east and parts of Africa. Reading this website has made me realize that I am lucky that I never had any ‘bad’ side effects from moving around a lot. I have never been depressed about it or felt a sense of loss. If anything my family is really close even though we live all over the world. My only issue is never feeling completely at home anywhere. Whenever I’m in the US I miss europe and vv. I also have problems not missing people, I’m very good at making new connections and letting go of old ones, but that seems to be a common problem for us. It funny how some siblings do better than others. My sister suffered a lot more than I did, she had difficulty making friends and we would move every time she finally had one. She was also traumatized by the bombs falling in Iraq and has had fire fears ever since (funny how I don’t). Otherwise I love being a TCK and am so thankful to my parents for letting me experience so much! It can be hard when you’re around others who don’t understand, but fortunately my friends all do, and I can give great advise! Also nothing beats having citizenship to the US and EU. I’m grateful every time I hear a crazy story from a friend about customs and being sent back out of the country.
