About Me: Singing Songs as the City Crumbles
Okay, I am super nervous about writing about myself on this site but here I go.
My name is Manal. I was born in Saudi Arabia but moved to Calgary, Canada when I was really young [about two or three years old]. I grew up in Calgary until I was twelve and then I moved to Saudi Arabia. Initially for about a year and a half I hated it there. Hate may be a strong word but I couldn’t get my head around the culture and I couldn’t make friends. However this school year I started making friends and getting involved and I was really, really at home because my dad had all these benefits from his company. But in November, my dad was 900km away at work and he got killed in a car accident. My mom and I [now 14] flew back to Calgary and are now living with my brother. My other brother lives in Saskatoon and is going through school there. I have to start a new school again on the 30th. I seem to have dropped off the planet for all my ‘friends’ here so I guess I am turning back to the good old internet like I did when I first moved to Saudi Arabia.
Some random things about me:
-I am a lifelong insomniac–the nights I sleep normally probably have been: drug induced, jet lag or I must have been hit in the head with a hammer or God decided to have mercy and somehow I pass out
-I love music
-I love chick flicks
-Louis Vuitton and DKNY are my favorite brands
-I like autumn the best out of all the seasons
-November is a horrible month
-Birthday: May 1
-I doodle but I have no creative talent
-I’m afraid of dogs

I’m really sorry to hear about your father and I know what it’s like to lose someone you love.
If you ever need to vent, we’re all here for you. You’re not alone!
How are you coping and do you have any support at home?
Wait, you’re 14? Hmm.. I think I know some TCKs in Calgary, I’m not too sure. I’ll get back to you on that!
And yeah, I’m not too big with Saudi either. I have family there, but we’re waaaaay too different.

We want anyone to feel anything but nervous, left out or “out of place” 
I am really sorry to hear about what happened to your father. It must be really tough to cope especially being so far away. Just remember, we’re all here for you if need someone to talk to

Hi Manal,
I’m very sorry about your father. I hope you are finding ways to cope with it. If you ever want to talk about it, we’re all here to hear you and help as much as we can.
I know how you feel about being nervous. I still feel like that sometimes (even though, as you will see, I’m a regular poster and have been spilling my heart here).
This is a good place to do it though, because people here won’t judge you. We are your friends!
Feel free to open up and we will help you. Sometimes just reading the posts and comments is already very healing.
