A Question for Adult TCKs..

Not being ageist, but this is an age related question. does the restlessness and craving for belonging get better with age?

I find that the restlessness and craving for belonging do not get better with age. (I write this 28 years after my initial repatriation.) However, your coping strategies will improve, if you focus on developing them.

I have also found that simply knowing the community of TCKs is out there can be an enormous comfort when you are feeling lonely and isolated. And the TCKID forum is a wonderful resource for reaching out and touching all your far-flung compatriots.

I think with age we learn how to relate our experiences with those around us. I think we also are able to realize that the restlessness is not necessarily a good thing and find ways to deal with it, with out uprooting ourselves and our families.
Hang in there. I have now been back in the states for 30 years with a brief 4 years back overseas. It isn't always easy to make the adjustments but as a christian I have found that God does help me with them. He (God) blessed me with a wonderful husband that has been aware of and sympathetic to the delima of being a TCK. That has helped more than I can say.
If you need to 'talk' some more email me. I am willing to be there for you.

    Blessings,
    Louise
