A lil about me :)

Hey Everyone!

I’d like to introduce myself my name is Sarah and im 28 years old the youngest sibling originally from Kenya. Born in Leeds, United Kingdom but only lived there for only 3 years so i’ve got absolutely no memories of it. Later on my parents moved to the United Arab Emirates where i was raised i stayed there until i was 18 then went off to college in the UK stayed there for 4 years and then came back to u.a.e ( home sweet home *sigh*) started working there for 2 years and then my parents decided that it was time to retire and we all had to move back to Kenya. That is when it really hit me hard i hated it soo much at the beginning i didn’t want to move back because i guess i felt that the u.a.e was home and although we usually go for regular vacations to Kenya each year i never considered it home. After living in Kenya for 2 years now and working here i’ve adjusted to it i still read U.A.E newspaper online and i still watch the news on tv as if i was there i even check google earth to see our old house it just that there are certain things that i really miss so much like the fog in the early mornings and believe it or not humidity!! lol! Whenever i used to visit my family back in the U.A.E during college years i was soo happy about it the minute the airplane touched the airport ground i’d be all smiles and nothin would make me feel even happier than looking out of the airplanes window and seeing that Dubai International Airport sign on. The minute the airplane door opens im usually the first person out and the humidity hits me and im all smiles and happy. I dont know to explain it but i have so many friends and memories i feel my life just stopped when we moved back to Kenya. I never spoke to anyone about these feelings coz my parents always remind us of the
sacrifice they had to make when they moved out of Kenya. Although my mom is an Adult TCK she was born and raised in Tanzania and never really came to Kenya much except for college and then met my Dad and they got married and moved to the UK right after college. I grew up with those beautiful stories about Tanzania and when i was little whenever anyone asks me i always had this urge to say my mom is from Tanzania lol! Well, back to me growing up in the U.A.E was very easy because most of the ppl there are expatriates so it was very easy to relate to. I remember the first thing i used to notice when we came on vacations was that everyone is Kenya is actually Kenyan and there arent alot of expatriates it felt very odd being raised up in a country where you have soo many different nationalities it is odd lol!

Im goin to move back to the UK in around a year to start working there and dont know if my feelings about U.A.E will vanish.. Will i feel this way about it forever?

Is there anyone out there like me?

    hye sarou. welcome

yes, there are plenty of people like you. the nice part is that you have a place where you feel your eharty belong, the sad part is that even if you go back, it won’t be the same. well…let me not say that, you left when you were in your 20’s right? so maybe hey. maybe you should look for a job there.

or you may find peace in another country all together. sometimes its the feeling of the place that we need, not necessarily the place. so somewhere else in the middle east, or north africa or even south or east europe may give you a similar feeling. who knows.

anyway, glad you found the site, karibu.

p.s. i LOVE TZ, it is one of my favourite african countries, if i were not in the business i am in, i would move there for sure!

sarou, i live in Dubai. Have been here for 8 years a an adult, but it is definitely “home” for my kids. But even for me, when i go back to my “home” country fo vacations, I am so glad to get back “home”to dubai. I have lived as an expat for about 20 years, and so I can tell you, you may adjust and develop a new feeling of home to where you find a life you enjoy, but that feeling of “coming home” to the UAE will always be there in some ways.
If you can manage, feed your soul, make plans to visit friends in the UAE, or make a stop over visit once in awhile. You may find it changed beyond recognition and therefore not as comfortable, or you may find it will always be home to your heart.
In any cae, know that there are so many that share your feeings.

it’s good for you that you have a place where you feel at home!
honestly, for me i still haven’t found a place i acknowledge as my home.
many people say their home is where their parents are.
i think as of now, regardless of where my parents are wherever i am is home (though how i feel may not necessarily say so).
