Overview of TCKID
TCKID is an unincorporated non-profit organization run by volunteers and is the fastest growing community for TCKs. It is read by many major entities, been mentioned in numerous organizations such as The Girl Scouts of the USA, Among Worlds Magazine and FIGT (Families in Global Transition) conference for TCKs, and is the clear leader in active discussion.
Founded in November 2007, TCKID (tckid.com) is a community website for Third Culture Kids (TCKs), Adult Third Culture Kids (ATCKs), and Cross Cultural individuals, dedicated to provide a safe and open environment for interaction, information, and support on TCK-related issues.
The website the result of a collaboration between members of the TCK Everywhere Facebook group, TCKWorld, and the participation of community experts such as Ruth Van Reken and Paulette Bethel. TCKID's founder is Brice Royer and the site is powered by Wordpress.
While positioning itself as an open-forum, the site is more widely regarded as a community for TCKs, because it caters to various needs such as relationship advice, counseling, meetups, research and email support. The site is entirely run by volunteers.
Using interactive technologies such as teleclasses, TCKID brings people together to meet across cultural and national boundaries to discuss their differences & similarities, and the issues that affect them.
TCKID aim to:
- Increase collaboration and dialogue between people of different cultures and nationalities
- Highlight TCK issues ranging from belonging to friendship, to restlessness
- Provide an educational framework in which anyone can become active leaders in their own education
How does TCKID help TCKs?
To date, TCKID members have learned to express themselves to others who understand their issues and can relate to their experiences, have been encouraged to explore their issues in a safe way without being judged, are able to open up to anyone about how being a TCK makes them feel, and have gotten the resources and assistance they need.
